SAN ANTONIO – More discussions on change at the Bexar County Jail are expected to happen Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
This comes after there have been more than 90 deaths since 2020.<\/p>\n
Bexar County commissioners will look into a proposed independent audit of custodial-death investigations.<\/p>\n
That is one proposal commissioners will look into to prevent so many deaths at the jail.<\/p>\n
Already, Bexar County commissioners approved a $250,000 plan to move medical and mental health screenings during the intake process once an inmate is arrested. This comes as more and more inmates are screened for medical issues, including drug use or withdrawal symptoms.<\/p>\n
Today, commissioners will discuss and examine the scope, cost and timeline for an independent administrative audit of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office’s compliance with the state’s custodial-death investigation requirements.<\/p>\n
It is all in the hopes of running the jail in a safer, more efficient manner.<\/p>\n
