{"id":409909,"date":"2026-08-18T15:46:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T15:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/409909\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T15:46:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T15:46:08","slug":"lubbock-cooper-isd-signs-off-on-increased-tax-rate-triggering-november-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/409909\/","title":{"rendered":"Lubbock-Cooper ISD signs off on increased tax rate triggering November election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; It\u2019s now up to voters in the Lubbock-Cooper school district to approve a new tax rate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Lubbock-Cooper ISD board approved a new property tax rate of a little less than $1.20 per $100 valuation for homes in the district. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The rate is more than the voter approval rate set forth by the state so, by law, it automatically triggers an election. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">If approved, it would result in an increase from last year of about 8% in maintenance and operations tax revenue \u2014 an additional $3 million the district can use. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The district reports this will raise the average homeowner\u2019s property tax payments by about $144 a year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">District documents show Lubbock Cooper is still short on its adopted budget by nearly half a million dollars. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The voter-approval tax rate election will be set for November 3. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCBD.
