The city is facing a projected General Fund shortfall of nearly $158 million through 2028 and has proposed nearly $90 million in spending cuts to help close the gap.

Under the proposal, the city’s property tax rate would increase from 54.159 cents to 56.288 cents per $100 of taxable value. For the average homeowner, city officials estimate that would mean paying about $35 more per year compared with last year’s tax bill.

City Manager Erik Walsh has said avoiding the tax increase would require finding roughly another $29 million in cuts this year. Those cuts could potentially affect services funded through the General Fund, which includes police, fire, parks, Animal Care Services, health programs and street maintenance.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio is considering a property tax increase as part of its proposed $4.4 billion…

[8
82,84,83
post-409966","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-san-antonio","tag-san-antonio","tag-san-antonio-headlines","tag-san-antonio-news
["GET
