John Cornyn, R-Texas, announced the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded $219,215 in federal grant funding to the City of Lubbock to enhance public safety and equip law enforcement with updated technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The funding will pay for a forensic 3D laser scanner to make 3D renderings of crime scenes and a portable bomb x-ray to scan suspicious material.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The money comes from the DOJ\u2019s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. Cornyn voted to fund the program as part of last year\u2019s Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAccess to proper equipment and modernized training is essential to ensuring our law enforcement officers are best able to protect Texans,\u201d Cornyn said. \u201cThis funding will equip law enforcement with the tools and resources needed to improve operational readiness and public safety outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCBD.
