{"id":410226,"date":"2026-08-18T22:54:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T22:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/410226\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T22:54:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T22:54:07","slug":"houston-city-college-received-103k-nrg-investment-for-texas-energy-workforce-apprenticeships-sugar-land-missouri-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/410226\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston City College received $103K NRG investment for Texas energy workforce apprenticeships | Sugar Land &#8211; Missouri City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hccs.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston City College<\/a> has received another investment to meet Greater Houston workforce needs.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s happening?<\/p>\n<p>The college has received a $103,000 investment from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrg.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NRG Energy Inc.<\/a> to broaden apprenticeships for students seeking employment in the growing energy industry, officials announced in an Aug. 17 news release.<\/p>\n<p>The funds will expand HCC&#8217;s apprenticeship trajectories in instrumentation and controls, offering students hands-on skills and experiences.<\/p>\n<p>A closer look<\/p>\n<p>HCC\u2019s instrumentation and controls programs include classroom instruction as well as employer established hands-on training, per the release.<\/p>\n<p>Graduates can expect to gain knowledge in operating, maintaining and troubleshooting automated systems that support power generation and industrial operations.<\/p>\n<p>What they\u2019re saying<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndustry is no longer simply advising higher education, it is helping shape it,\u201d HCC Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher said. \u201cThrough partnerships like this with NRG, Houston City College is preparing students for careers that are in demand today while building the workforce Texas will need tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In case you missed it<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the NRG investment, HCC received a $17 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies to <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/katy-fulshear\/education\/hcc-to-launch-trade-program-with-17m-investment-from-bloomberg-philanthropies\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expand apprenticeships<\/a>, skilled trades training and dual-credit opportunities for high school students, Community Impact reported.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the college will use a $1 million <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/katy-fulshear\/education\/hcc-receives-1m-from-lowes-foundation-to-support-high-demand-skilled-trades\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lowe\u2019s Foundation<\/a> Gable Grant to grow local training programs for high-demand skilled trades.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Houston City College has received another investment to meet Greater Houston workforce needs.
