<\/p>\nCORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Corpus Christi City Council unanimously approved a $657,000 property purchase near the Hilliard Center on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The building, located 1525 N. Shoreline Blvd, is set to serve as an extension of the Hilliard Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The proposed purchase includes $646,875 for the property and up to $10,500 in closing costs.<\/p>\n

According to the agenda, the Corpus Christi B Corporation would use the property for economic development related to tourism, conventions, concessions, public events and\/or parking.<\/p>\n
Councilman Mark Scott said the property could help address a longstanding parking and crowd-management problem around the Hilliard Center.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been a burr in everybody’s saddle for decades,\u201d Scott said, describing how cars frequently surround the neighboring property during events.<\/p>\n
Scott said the property could instead be used to stage people and help prevent large crowds from arriving and entering the Hilliard Center at the same time.<\/p>\n
The Hilliard Center hosted country singer Ella Langley on Friday night, providing a recent example of the large crowds the venue can attract.<\/p>\n
