Particularly if you’re so drowsy on a Saturday morning that you trip over the high front doorstep. (Advice: Take the ramp.)

Salsa morita is a hotter version of chipotle sauce made with morita chili peppers, a distinctive small jalapeño. It has all the roasted flavor of chipotles and more fire, turning an egg platter or chilaquiles rojos into a fireball breakfast.

Salsa arbol is also available, and El Yucateco habanero sauces are on the table.

A chilaquiles platter is about $10, so La Tortilandia is the place to go if you’re tired of expensive brunches.

“Orejas de elefante” is a nickname for a large, double-stacked breaded steak Milanesa, figuratively the shape of an “elephant’s ear.”

If the only Milanesa you’ve ever tried was tough or hard, this is neither. La Tortilandia’s fried steak is tender, with finer breading than a chicken-fried steak.

The menu at this restaurant — originally named “La Tortilandia Oyster Bar” — includes a wide choice of shrimp or fish diablo or with garlic sauce, fish tacos Veracruz-style or snapper wrapped in parchment and baked with vegetables.

A combo platter with ceviche, shrimp, stuffed jalapeños, fish tacos, guacamole and sour cream at La Tortilandia.

The regular lunch platters of enchiladas or tacos cost less than $10. So do weeknight dinner specials.

The special one recent day was chicken in mole sauce for about $11, another good deal.

The primary dessert is the house-made flan, but if it’s sold out you’ll have to settle for sopaipillas, bakery tres leches cake or La Tortilandia’s pancakes, a neighborhood favorite.

A burrito at La Tortilandia.

This location is the last of what once was a three-restaurant company owned by the Dorado family. It later was a dry cleaners, a cabinet shop and a drugstore before becoming a series of panaderias and restaurants.

La Tortilandia’s busy season is just beginning, It’s a frequent stop for TCU football fans going to or from games using West Berry Street from Interstate 35W.

It’s open from breakfast through dinner daily; 817-922-0205, latortilandia.com.

Nearly 35 years after it opened, when most of south Fort Worth knew little about tortas or sopes,…

[10
10762,116,118,117,143429,74378,3276,3570
post-410685","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-worth","tag-chilaquiles","tag-fort-worth","tag-fort-worth-headlines","tag-fort-worth-news","tag-la-tortilandia","tag-mexican-restaurants","tag-ryan-place","tag-tacos
["GET
