Allen ISD\u2019s Anderson Early Childhood School<\/a> reopened for the 2026-27 school year after a $30.4 million renovation project was completed over the summer.<\/p>\n

The big picture<\/p>\n

District officials approved funding for the project<\/a> in December 2025 with the goal of repurposing the former elementary school. Renovation work included replacement of flooring, wall paint and fixtures throughout the school as well as a redesign of Anderson\u2019s lobby, reception area, administrative area, cafeteria and library.<\/p>\n

Jennifer Wilhelm<\/a>, assistant superintendent of Learner Services, said every aspect of the renovation was \u201cpurposefully designed\u201d for Allen ISD\u2019s pre-K students. Allen ISD offers a pre-K program at the school for students who are 4 years old by Sept. 1, according to its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything from the colors and thematic design to the height of sinks and flexible spaces have been intentionally designed to meet the needs of our youngest students,\u201d Wilhelm said in an email. \u201cThrough inspiring learning environments, students will engage in exploration, experiential learning, and purposeful play that lay the foundation for early literacy and numeracy while building the background knowledge essential for future learning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Renovations also added six experiential learning rooms that encourage a hands-on, active approach to learning, Wilhelm said. Rooms include:<\/p>\n

Blue Planet AdventuresCosmic DiscoveriesEco GardenExploring TexasImaginationJourney in Time<\/p>\n

These rooms will \u201cmake learning engaging and memorable\u201d while helping build foundational skills in Allen ISD\u2019s youngest learners, Wilhelm said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt Anderson Early Childhood School, six different immersive learning environments provide students with opportunities to explore real-world concepts through dramatic play, sensory-rich exploration, and collaborative problem solving,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Zooming out<\/p>\n

School renovations were funded by a voter-approved district bond proposal passed in November 2024. Voters approved two propositions totaling more than $442 million, including:<\/p>\n

Proposition A: $419.1 millionFull renovations at multiple schoolsMechanical, electrical and plumbing work at multiple schoolsRoofing and waterproofing work at multiple schoolsConcrete and foundation repairs at multiple schoolsProposition C: $23.1 millionUpdate computers used by students and staff at all campuses<\/p>\n

Cheatham Elementary School<\/a> and Curtis Middle School<\/a> also underwent renovations before the start of the 2026-27 school year, according to Allen ISD\u2019s website.
