The unveiling took place directly on the auction floor, which is rarely open to the public. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The marker recognizes the wholesale business\u2019 eighth decade of operation in Lubbock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Founded in 1947, Lubbock Auto Auction is the oldest auction of its kind in Texas and west of the Mississippi River, and the second-oldest in the United States. Operating exclusively for auto dealers every Thursday, the business has shown long-term resilience, including continuing scheduled auctions under a big top tent after a devastating fire in December 1971.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Official Texas Historical Marker program highlights local landmarks to preserve Lubbock County\u2019s history, with over 80 markers erected to date.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCBD.
