Here’s why.<\/p>\n An Austin family went to a Texas Roadhouse, only to have a run-in with a police officer. But it wasn\u2019t for any official business. He apparently took the \u201cserve\u201d in protect and serve a little too literally, as he was at the popular steakhouse chain to serve tables.<\/p>\n Maribel Marin (@maribelmarin40), a content creator who went to a Texas Roadhouse<\/a> in Leander, Texas, captured a video of a police officer in full uniform serving her family.<\/p>\n In the video, an officer passes ribs to a man at the table. Then, he passes a meal to a woman, who appears to be laughing at the situation and its peculiarity.<\/p>\n The officer\u2019s presence seemingly stunned the content creator\u2019s table and not in a good way. \u201cI didn\u2019t know whether to run away or grab the food please don\u2019t scare me,\u201d Marin wrote in her video\u2019s description.<\/p>\n What\u2019s Texas Roadhouse\u2019s Tip-A-Cop Event?<\/p>\n According to Law Enforcement Today<\/a>, the reason why cops were there is simple: They were participating in a charity program.<\/p>\n The Tip-A-Cop program is a longstanding partnership between Texas Roadhouse locations and law enforcement, which happens across the country. More than 20 Texas locations participated<\/a>, with dates of service ranging from July 21 to July 23.<\/p>\n Online, Special Olympics Texas clarifies that \u201cTexas Law Enforcement Torch Run\u00ae (LETR) police officers\u201d are the ones that are collecting donations for the organization, which provides \u201csports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n Texas Roadhouse<\/a> has hosted many Tip-A-Cop days, although dates differ depending on the state. Locations in Florida, for instance, hosted a few Tip-A-Cop days<\/a> in March<\/a>. In Southern California<\/a>, eight Texas Roadhouse locations agreed to take part in Tip-A-Cop day, with an upcoming date scheduled on Sept. 8, 2026.<\/p>\n In a comment to BroBible, a spokesperson from Special Olympics Texas provided more context on why law enforcement is involved in the program\u2019s fundraising.<\/p>\n \u201cThrough the Law Enforcement Torch Run and events like Tip-A-Cop, officers build meaningful relationships with athletes and families in their communities,\u201d they wrote. \u201cThese interactions create greater familiarity and understanding of people with intellectual disabilities, while also helping athletes and families build relationships with the officers who serve them. We\u2019ve also seen these events introduce people to Special Olympics Texas who may not otherwise know about our organization, inspiring them to volunteer, participate as Unified partners or become more involved in supporting our athletes.\u201d<\/p>\n The representative stated that, \u201cAnyone can support Tip-A-Cop by attending an event, enjoying a meal and making an optional donation.
