HOUSTON \u2013 Houston, your next rideshare might not have a driver.<\/p>\n
Waymo has expanded rider access in Houston, meaning anyone who has the Waymo app can now request one of the company\u2019s autonomous vehicles.<\/p>\n
That means you no longer need a special invitation or early-access status to give a robotaxi a try. If you have the app, you can request a ride.<\/p>\n
And yes, that means you could soon find yourself sitting in the back seat, watching Houston traffic while the car does the driving.<\/p>\n
So, how does it work?<\/p>\n
Waymo\u2019s vehicles use cameras, sensors and other technology to navigate roads and make driving decisions without a human behind the wheel.<\/p>\n
Riders request a trip through the Waymo app, just like they would with a traditional rideshare service. Once a vehicle arrives, passengers can hop in and let the car take it from there.<\/p>\n
The company says the expansion gives more Houstonians a chance to experience autonomous transportation for themselves.<\/p>\n
