LOUIS (Aug. 23, 2026) \u2013 Houston Dynamo 2\u00a0will make their fourth\u00a0MLS NEXT Pro Playoff\u00a0appearance after\u00a0clinching<\/a>\u00a0a postseason berth Sunday night with a 2-2 draw at St. Louis CITY2 and claiming the two points in the penalty shootout. Goalkeeper\u00a0Logan\u00a0Erb\u00a0delivered back-to-back crucial saves on the third and fourth penalties, while forward\u00a0Arthur\u00a0Sousa\u00a0converted the final penalty kick to secure Houston’s fourth shootout victory.<\/p>\n

The feat makes Houston the third team in the Western Conference to qualify for this year’s playoffs.<\/p>\n

Notably, tonight’s match saw defender\u00a0Chibuike\u00a0Ukaegbu\u00a0make his Dynamo 2 debut and his first start in orange after\u00a0joining<\/a>\u00a0the team earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Dynamo 2 took the lead in the 17th\u00a0minute after capitalizing on a St. Louis error near the top of the box. Striker\u00a0Austin\u00a0Brummett\u00a0pressured the hosts’ backline and forced a misplaced pass, allowing Brummett to collect the ball before calmly finishing into the bottom right corner for his 10th\u00a0goal of the season.<\/p>\n

Dos extended their lead in the 47th\u00a0minute following another CITY2 mistake that resulted in an own goal from Miguel Perez. The St. Louis midfielder attempted to play a back pass to his goalkeeper, but the ball instead ended up in his own net.<\/p>\n

CITY2 pulled one back in the 70th\u00a0minute when Perez’s free kick was redirected by Riley Lynch to the middle of the box, where Nighte Pickering finished with a left-footed shot.<\/p>\n

St. Louis equalized in the 85th\u00a0minute when a lose ball from their corner landed in front of Zack Lillington for a header.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Houston’s first shots on goal came in the fifth minute, with defender\u00a0Vinicius\u00a0Silva\u00a0striking first with a left-footed blast from\u00a0long\u00a0distance that forced CITY2 goalkeeper Colin Welsh to punch the shot away. Seconds later, attacker\u00a0Mattheo\u00a0Dimareli\u00a0connected with a pass from midfielder\u00a0Gustavo\u00a0Dohmann, curling a shot that forced Welsh to make a diving save.<\/p>\n

Dimareli had another dangerous chance in the 32nd\u00a0minute, firing a left-footed longe-range shot towards the bottom right corner, but Welsh denied the effort with a diving save.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Erb was called into action in the 36th\u00a0minute, rising high to tip over Jack Wagoner’s shot from outside the box over the crossbar.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
