LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock Police officer shot an armed man who police say led them on a chase, fired shots multiple times and threatened officers in east Lubbock Monday morning. The suspect later died.<\/p>\n
Police Chief Seth Herman said around 9:43 a.m., officers responded to reports of a man firing a gun near the Canyon Lakes area. The suspect then showed a gun while driving around the area, according to 911 callers.<\/p>\n
The suspect headed north on MLK, Jr. Blvd. near 19th Street, where he briefly stopped. Officers tried to contact him on a felony warrant. Chief Herman said the man \u201crefused and continued to drive, and refused, as well, to show his hands.\u201d<\/p>\n
Herman said the man then pointed the gun out of the vehicle\u2019s window and fired one shot, before driving off. He stopped again at East Broadway and MLK Blvd., before driving off again. He then headed east on Parkway Drive.<\/p>\n
Herman said officers tried to stop him with a police cruiser, attempting a forcible stop. This was unsuccessful; the man kept driving, eventually into a parking lot of a store on Parkway, just east of MLK. Officers successfully used a forcible stop at this location.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe subject stepped out of the vehicle with the firearm, forcing the officer to engage him with lethal fire,\u201d Chief Herman said. <\/p>\n
Officers began life-saving measures until EMS arrived. An ambulance took the man to the hospital. Chief Herman said at a brief news conference late morning it wasn\u2019t yet clear whether the man died en route to the hospital or at the hospital. No one else was hurt.<\/p>\n
