SAN ANTONIO – Three people were reportedly hospitalized after a fire broke out inside an elevator shaft at the Bexar County Jail.<\/p>\n
At 5:40 p.m. on Monday, crews responded to reports of a structure fire at the Bexar County Jail, near the corner of Buena Vista and Comal Street in downtown.<\/p>\n
When first responders arrived, they found a small fire in a closet area and began investigating further, ultimately finding that a fire had broken out inside an elevator shaft.<\/p>\n
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, there was construction work underway in an elevator shaft when something involving the machinery apparently caught fire.<\/p>\n
One SERT team member cut himself on the box holding the water hose. Another SERT team member was taken for evaluation as a precaution for possible low oxygen exposure.<\/p>\n

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the machinery to catch fire.
