Jason Corley, county commissioner, explained a viral Ring doorbell video of him recorded Saturday on someone\u2019s front porch in South Central Lubbock.<\/p>\n

The video showed Corley taking an empty bottle of Fireball out of his back pocket and leaving it in a planter next to someone\u2019s front door. He was walking blocks for Ken Paxton, Republican candidate for U.S. Senator.<\/p>\n

Corley said, \u201cWalking up to this door and there\u2019s a bottle of Fireball laying in this guy\u2019s yard. No big deal. Pick it up. It\u2019s just trash.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen I\u2019m like, \u2018I do not want to be block walking with a bottle of Fireball in my pocket,\u2019\u201d Corley said.<\/p>\n

So, he set it down in the planter.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was trash laying on the ground. It\u2019s a nice neighborhood. I don\u2019t know. It\u2019s what you do. \u2026 Anyway, I go on. I don\u2019t think anything of it,\u201d Corley said.<\/p>\n

People commenting online assumed Corley was drinking. Corley said that\u2019s not the case \u2013 not even close.<\/p>\n

Corley said the video started getting out that night.<\/p>\n

\u201cI start getting messages from people about it,\u201d Corley said.<\/p>\n

Kyle Rable, Democratic candidate for Texas House District 19, posted online, using the occasion to poke fun at Corley and other Republicans.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d drink if they were my candidates too,\u201d Rable posted.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne guy \u2026 he\u2019s like, \u2018Yeah, I need some fireball too to block walk for Ken Paxton.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Okay, that\u2019s pretty good,\u2019\u201d Corley said.<\/p>\n

LubbockLights.com reached out to the homeowners. Albert Pereira provided a written statement in response.<\/p>\n

Pereira said, \u201cWould have preferred he communicated rather than just slip it into my planter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[He] could have easily said something to the tune of \u2018Hey, I\u2019m with Ken Paxton \u2013 just dropping by, picked this up from your yard, [and] I\u2019ll just set it here,\u201d Pereira said.<\/p>\n

Corley said he would have mentioned it but no one answered the door. The Ring doorbell audio gave Corley a message as he was turning to go, saying, \u201cWe can\u2019t answer the door right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pereira said, \u201cMind you, we have a very visible \u2018no soliciting\u2019 sign.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pereira also said the video made it look like someone on his front porch was \u201cdrunk, stupid or both.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cQuite honestly, it could be exactly what he said, and I\u2019m willing to let it go and show grace. Not trying to hurt anyone\u2019s career or way of life, I just want peace at my home and to not be disturbed constantly by door to door soliciting,\u201d Pereira said.<\/p>\n

Corley said, \u201cWe\u2019ll be block-walking next weekend. We\u2019re calling it team Fireball.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYour local libs have got no issues. They\u2019ve got nothing to talk about. So, this is the best they can do. Well, thanks for the free publicity,\u201d Corley said.<\/p>\n
