In the midst of its largest expansion in 30 years<\/a>, Methodist Healthcare<\/a> has lost its CEO.<\/p>\n Dan Miller<\/a>, who was appointed president of\u00a0San Antonio\u2019s largest healthcare system in 2023, is moving on to become president of HCA Healthcare<\/a>\u2019s East Florida Division. HCA jointly owns Methodist with local nonprofit Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas Inc.<\/a><\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n \u201cServing Methodist Healthcare for the past eight years has been an incredible privilege,\u201d Miller said in a statement. \u201cI\u2019m deeply grateful for the colleagues, physicians and caregivers I\u2019ve had the opportunity to work alongside and for the compassion and commitment they bring to our patients, our communities and each other every day. He managed the system\u2019s 11 hospitals and 10 freestanding emergency departments that serve more than 2.6 million inpatients and outpatients annually.<\/p>\n In 2023, the health system expanded into the Hill Country, purchasing\u00a0Fredericksburg-based Hill Country Memorial, rebranding it as\u00a0Methodist Hospital Hill Country<\/a>. Later that year, it reopened Forest Park Medical Center as Methodist Hospital | Landmark in Northwest San Antonio, and invested $3.45 million to expand its emergency department<\/a> in 2025.<\/p>\n RELATED:\u00a0San Antonio\u2019s largest healthcare system is racing to keep up with growing demand<\/a><\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n In October 2024, Methodist acquired another rehabilitation hospital on the Northwest Side of town, rebranding it Methodist Rehabilitation Hospital | Texsan<\/a>. The next month, the healthcare provider opened its Westover Hills hospital<\/a>, a 180,000-square-foot, 54-bed acute care facility on the West Side of San Antonio.<\/p>\n The health system also has committed at least $450 million to improve existing assets, the biggest such reinvestment it\u2019s made.<\/p>\n Last year, Methodist embarked on a $200 million upgrade<\/a> of its downtown hospital to keep up with growing demand. Additionally, it\u2019s spending $104 million<\/a> to add 54 beds at its Stone Oak hospital. In 2024, Methodist launched a graduate medical education program<\/a>, focused on training resident physicians to address workforce shortages in South Texas. With 13,500 employees, the system is the second-largest private employer in San Antonio.<\/p>\n Before he took over as president of the entire health system, Miller was CEO of San Antonio\u2019s Methodist Hospital<\/a> and Methodist Children\u2019s Hospital<\/a>.
