Lubbock has a very specific look.<\/p>\n

You can usually tell you’re here without even checking for a street sign.<\/p>\n

Flat. Dry. Kinda ugly. (I’m sorry. It’s true.)<\/p>\n

We don’t have mountains. We don’t have streams. We don’t have a whole lot to look at around here. But, every once in a while, you’ll stumble across a place that makes you think, “Wait a second…Am I still in Lubbock?”<\/p>\n

For a city sitting out here on the dusty South Plains, we have some pretty weird little pockets that feel like they belong on a different pair of jeans…<\/p>\n

You were driving around Lubbock, and now suddenly, you’re standing next to a real World War II glider.<\/p>\n

You’ll find a restored WACO CG-4A glider and some really cool exhibits about the brave glider pilots who served in the war at The Silent Wings Museum<\/a>, located at the former South Plains Army Airfield.<\/p>\n

It’s the kind of place where you expect a tiny little boring museum, but walk out thinking, “HOW in the HECK did they get ALL OF THAT in there?”<\/p>\n

The Lubbock Memorial Arboretum\u00a0<\/a>has gorgeous, lush gardens, something you hardly ever see in Lubbock. Wandering through there is like walking right into a fairytale.<\/p>\n

It’s basically the exact opposite of Avenue Q…<\/p>\n

3. Lubbock Lake Landmark\"aPhoto by Trnava University<\/a> on Unsplash<\/a>a bucket filled with different types of tools<\/p>\n

This one is particularly weird. It doesn’t look like the kind of place where you’d find thousands of years of history, but it is.<\/p>\n

The archaeological setting\u00a0combined with the landscape makes you feel like you are completely removed from the city.<\/p>\n

Lubbock Lake Landmark<\/a> is truly one of the coolest things in our city.<\/p>\n

Historic buildings. Walking trails.<\/p>\n

It’s peaceful and strangely immersive.<\/p>\n

The National Ranching Heritage Center<\/a> makes you feel like\u00a0you’ve walked through a time warp.<\/p>\n

Nope. You didn’t drive into a strange little alternate universe. You’re still in Lubbock.<\/p>\n

The American Windmill Museum<\/a> has one of the largest and most impressive collections of working windmills in the world.<\/p>\n

There are hundreds spread across the property. Watching them spin is mesmerizing.<\/p>\n
