AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 The University of Texas soccer team dropped its first contest of the season, falling to Baylor, 2-1, at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
The Longhorns (3-1-1) generated more shots, shots on goal and corners than the Bears (3-1-0), but Baylor delivered the decisive tally in the 75th minute.<\/p>\n
Theresa McCullough sprung free down the left sideline and darted into the six-yard box. McCullough tucked a point-blank shot inside the near post to notch the Bears’ first win in Austin since 2015.<\/p>\n
For the fifth straight match, Texas found the back of the net first.<\/p>\n
Hannah Tate<\/a> drove a high-arching ball over the top of Baylor’s backline. Ava McDonald<\/a> dashed past the defense and set up Callan Harrington<\/a> right in front of the goal. Harrington tapped home her first tally on The Forty Acres to put the Longhorns ahead in the 16th minute.<\/p>\n Over the next 13 minutes, Texas nearly doubled its advantage on two different occasions. McDonald and EmJ Witt<\/a> beat the keeper in the 19th and 29th minutes, respectively, but both times a Bears’ defender denied the ball on the goal line. \u00a0<\/p>\n Baylor equalized at the 33:00 mark, as Aryanna Jimison provided a spark off the bench. Jimison ripped a left-foot strike from 20 yards out into the bottom right corner for her first tally of the year.<\/p>\n Overall, the Longhorns outshot the Bears, 17-16, highlighted by a 9-4 advantage in shots on target. Texas mounted eight corners and held the visitors to just two.<\/p>\n Up next, the Longhorns will play their final non-conference home match against Incarnate Word on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Mike A.
