Federal, state and local law enforcement have been working for several weeks on security preparations for the first-ever Republican National Committee Midterm Convention at American Airlines Center.

The convention is expected to bring about 20,000 visitors and dignitaries, including President Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

The U.S. Secret Service Dallas said it is not tracking any credible threats as federal, state and local law enforcement prepare for the event in Dallas.

Chris Foley, special agent in charge of U.S. Secret Service Dallas, said the planning involves multiple aspects of security and emergency response.

“That work includes coordinating intelligence, transportation and traffic planning, airspace security, emergency response, credentialing, access control, and public safety operations,” Foley said.

The Secret Service said the public will begin seeing security measures around American Airlines Center starting Friday, Sept. 4.

“These can include law enforcement personnel, temporary fencing, vehicle barriers, checkpoints, access control points, and traffic restrictions,” Foley said.

The Dallas Police Department also released a map of planned street closures. The closures are scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 7, and continue through Friday, Sept. 11.

Police also warned demonstrators to remain peaceful and respect established security areas.

“There will be areas where access is restricted for security reasons, and please do not attempt to cross barricades, fencing or any law enforcement checkpoints,” Dallas Police Deputy Chief Devon Polk said.

Security for the convention is expected to cost an estimated $1.8 million. The Republican National Committee said Thursday it is willing to help mitigate those expenses, while Dallas City Manager Kimberly Tolbert said Dallas residents will not be left with the bill.

“The city is also actively evaluating reimbursement and grant opportunities and will pursue all eligible funding sources to help offset the cost to Dallas taxpayers,” Tolbert said.
