The grand-prize winner will receive $25,000 and appear in a national TV commercial provided by Ace Hardware.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Voting opens Sept. 8. Supporters can vote for Colvin <a data-ylk=\"slk:here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/yoursuperdad.org\/maurice-colvin--Xfqk\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Colvin joined 3NEWS First Edition alongside his children, Neriah and Amari, to talk about the competition and what fatherhood means to him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Colvin said he originally signed up because he thought he was joining an online community for fathers. He didn&#8217;t realize it was a contest until an email arrived weeks later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I got an email saying, &#8216;Congratulations, you&#8217;re a contestant,'&#8221; Colvin said. The news also came as a surprise to his children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I was kind of shocked. I was like, &#8216;What? You got accepted to the contest? That&#8217;s great,'&#8221; Neriah said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Colvin has spent nearly 20 years working as a barber, serving the Corpus Christi community. He said much of what drives him comes down to the example he wants to set for his children. &#8220;Legacy, it&#8217;s just something that was taught to me and my sister, and we&#8217;re just carrying the torch,&#8221; Colvin said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">His children say that the example has made an impact. &#8220;My dad means a lot. He&#8217;s a role model to me,&#8221; Neriah said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Voting begins Sept. 8, with supporters able to vote once every 24 hours.
