A federal judge in San Antonio is set to hear arguments Friday<\/p>\n

SAN ANTONIO \u2013 A legal battle over a proposed border security project in the Big Bend National Park region is playing out in a San Antonio federal courtroom. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe People of La Junta for Preservation,\u201d along with members of the Lipan Apache Tribe, rallied outside the courthouse Friday morning. <\/p>\n

A federal judge in San Antonio is set to hear arguments Friday in a legal battle over plans to build border infrastructure through parts of the park. <\/p>\n

The plaintiffs are asking the court to block construction, arguing the federal government is exceeding its authority. <\/p>\n

At the center of the case is whether the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can use its border wall authority to build in and around Big Bend National Park. <\/p>\n

The lawsuit also raised concerns about potential damage to archaeological and cultural sites and the impact construction could have on indigenous religious practices. <\/p>\n
