{"id":419867,"date":"2026-08-29T03:58:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T03:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/419867\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T03:58:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T03:58:08","slug":"arizona-man-arrested-in-1981-texas-cold-case-murder-after-forensic-testing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/419867\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona man arrested in 1981 Texas cold case murder after forensic testing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BEXAR COUNTY, Texas \u2014 An Arizona man is awaiting extradition to Texas to face a capital murder charge in connection with the sexual assault and killing of a 23-year-old woman more than 45 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said 68-year-old Kelly Lee Brower was arrested Aug. 19 in Cottonwood, Arizona, after modern forensic testing identified him as the person responsible for the 1981 death of Yolanda Herrera.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cbsaustin.com\/news\/local\/59-year-old-woman-found-dead-on-trail-at-enchanted-rock-state-natural-area\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ALSO| 59-year-old woman found dead on trail at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Herrera&#8217;s nude body was discovered by children in a field near the 500 block of East Aviation Drive in Bexar County on April 13, 1981.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators determined Herrera had been sexually assaulted and beaten to death.
