{"id":420779,"date":"2026-08-30T03:52:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T03:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/420779\/"},"modified":"2026-08-30T03:52:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T03:52:12","slug":"ex-cfo-of-dallas-nonprofit-sentenced-to-5-years-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/420779\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-CFO of Dallas nonprofit sentenced to 5 years in prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The former chief financial officer of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/texas\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dallas-based<\/a> charity for children was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/courts\/?utm_source=paid_marketing&amp;utm_medium=google_dsa&amp;utm_campaign=content_acquisition&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=23423742462&amp;gbraid=0AAAAADjVYgFmBAr1gXNkwom9GfRoHdtVZ&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwhsrUBhDxARIsAN3AQSebBn9l5Y6sa9nWGpu3_8VIxIs2g8RNv9IwzmnvgGb1CYJr7Hzsh9caArF-EALw_wcB\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recently sentenced<\/a> to five years in prison after he pled guilty to wire fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors accused former Child and Family Guidance Center CFO Jeffrey Scott Keehn of a scheme that stole about $2.1 million from the nonprofit from 2016 to 2023. Keehn, 55, used the nonprofit&#8217;s checking account to write fraudulent checks to himself. He falsely claimed the payments were being made to medical providers and other vendors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Each payment was less than $10,000 because the nonprofit required payments that exceeded that amount needed to be reviewed by higher-ups. In total, he submitted about 250 checks into three different bank accounts in his name, according to court documents reviewed by The Dallas Morning News.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The nonprofit\u2019s mission is to provide affordable mental health services to children and families.<\/p>\n<p>But instead,\u00a0Keehn used some of its funds to pay for his lifestyle, including covering the costs of homes in Texas and California. He also used the money to buy a Chevrolet sports utility vehicle and several precious metals.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Attorney Ryan\u00a0Raybould said in a statement that Keehn\u2019s actions were unconscionable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr.\u00a0Keehn\u2019s fraud didn\u2019t just drain the charity\u2019s finances; it forced them to divert time and resources away from their mission,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Keehn&#8217;s attorney declined to comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Keehn pled guilty to one count of wire fraud as a part of a plea agreement. During his sentencing Wednesday, he was ordered to pay full restitution.
