Founded by Natalie Arlo, the gathering featured keynote speaker Cherise Janelle and various panels focused on professional growth and personal purpose. Supported by over 20 partners, the event provided resources and networking opportunities to help newcomers and residents alike build meaningful local connections.

By Reagan Elam | Dallas Weekly Culture Contributor

The Connection’s annual gathering brought together Dallas newcomers and longtime residents for conversations, connections and a clearer sense of belonging.

For people new to Dallas, building a life in the city can require more than finding a job, an apartment or a favorite restaurant. In a city as expansive and fast-growing as Dallas, finding your “people” and the right resources can be challenging to make it feel like home.

That’s how I’m New Here Dallas was birthed, the Connection’s flagship annual event, brought together professionals, creatives and entrepreneurs seeking deeper community across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Founded by Natalie Arlo, The Connection is a community and platform created to help women who are new to Dallas connect, grow and thrive personally and professionally through experiences, resources and relationships.

Held Aug. 22, 2026, the gathering welcomed people from different backgrounds, industries and stages of life for a day centered on connection, sisterhood and belonging.

From the moment guests entered the room, the intention was clear: This was more than a networking event. It was designed as a safe space where women could connect authentically, build relationships and begin finding community in Dallas.

The day featured a keynote speaker, local vendors, community recognition and panel experiences focused on Soft Life and Success, a Dallas Insider conversation featuring Dallas’ own, the connection circle and breakout conversations. Together, the sessions gave attendees opportunities to hear from local voices while engaging in more intimate discussions.

Arlo said the space was created intentionally to foster connection and fellowship among women throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

That purpose reflects The Connection’s broader mission: to help women who are new to Dallas connect, grow and thrive personally and professionally through meaningful experiences, practical resources and lasting relationships.

The organization also recognizes that starting over in a new city can feel isolating. Through I’m New Here Dallas, The Connection works to help women feel seen, supported and connected so that no one has to navigate a new chapter alone.

That purpose was evident throughout the day. Conversations from the stage encouraged guests to look beyond surface-level networking and consider the relationships, support systems and personal growth needed for their next chapter.

The event also recognized Viola’s House, highlighting the importance of supporting organizations already doing meaningful work in the Dallas community.

More Than One Day of Connection

Although I’m New Here Dallas is The Connection’s flagship annual event, the organization’s work continues throughout the year.

The community hosts additional meetups that allow members to keep building relationships through community service, happy hours, fitness experiences and other social gatherings.

That year-round approach reinforces The Connection’s mission. Community isn’t built during one event. It grows through consistent experiences, shared resources and relationships that continue long after the room clears.

For Kyla Williams, head of partnerships and community relations, one of the most rewarding parts of producing the event has been seeing organizations and community partners believe in that mission.

When asked what stood out most about organizing an event of this size, Williams pointed to the support the organization received.

“All of the partnerships and communities taking a chance on us, saying yes and assisting with putting all of this together.”

That support helped make this year’s gathering the organization’s largest yet.

“This event this year is the biggest and baddest event we’ve worked on, securing over 20-plus partners and sponsors,” Williams said.

She also recognized Texas Glam Agency for helping bring together the event’s hosts, moderators and talent.

“Big shoutout to Texas Glam Agency. They have worked tremendously with securing our hosts, moderators and our talent overall.”

Those partnerships were visible throughout the event, from the programming onstage to the local businesses represented throughout the venue.

Highlighted vendors included DB Beauty, a Black-owned cosmetics line, and Sip Genuine Wine, a Black-owned wine company, along with several other local businesses attendees were encouraged to support and shop with.

A Seat at the Table — But Which Seat Is Yours?

One of the day’s most resonant moments came from keynote speaker Cherise Janelle and her message, “A Seat at the Table.”

Janelle, a visionary leader, marketing executive and founder whose work centers on building brands and empowering communities through purpose-driven strategy and innovation, challenged the room to consider a question that went deeper than simply gaining access:

What is the right seat for you?

Her message explored identity, growth and the expectations women often carry as they move through different roles in their lives.

As a wife, daughter, mother of two and accomplished executive, Janelle spoke candidly about reaching a point when she had to ask herself not only what she wanted to accomplish, but who she wanted to become.

One question captured the heart of that reflection:

“Who are you before they told you to be?”

The question felt especially fitting for a room filled with people navigating new cities, careers, relationships, businesses and versions of themselves.

Cherise also spoke about the pivotal moments many women experience and why having the right support system matters when life requires them to make difficult decisions about where they are going next.

She offered attendees a framework for doing that work: ALIGN.

A — Audit. Assess your time, your circumstances and where you currently are.

L — Listen. Listen to yourself rather than allowing outside expectations to drown out your own voice.

I — Intentionality. Make intentional choices and be willing to choose yourself.

G — Growth. Give yourself permission to evolve beyond the version of yourself that may have once served you.

N — Navigation. Determine how you will move forward once you understand where you are being called next.

The framework reframed the familiar idea of wanting “a seat at the table.” The goal isn’t always simply getting into the room. Sometimes growth requires deciding whether the table — or the seat you have been pursuing — is actually meant for the person you are becoming.

Finding Your Why

That same idea shaped Arlo’s vision for this year’s gathering.

When asked what she hoped attendees would take away from the event, she connected her answer directly to the 2026 theme, “A Seat at the Table.”

“They’re going to walk away with their reason ‘why’ for being present in Dallas,” Natalie said. “Their seat at the table. We all have a reason. We all have a purpose, and I truly believe everyone will find that purpose today.”

Her words captured something larger than simply being new to Dallas.

Finding community isn’t only about where you live. It can also mean understanding why you are in a particular season, who you need around you and what you are being called to build while you’re there.

That is the heart of The Connection’s work: creating the experiences, resources and relationships that help women feel supported as they grow into their lives in Dallas.

Dallas continues to attract people searching for professional opportunities, entrepreneurship, culture and new beginnings. But relocating to a city — or entering a new season of life — doesn’t automatically create community.

Community has to be cultivated.

Events like I’m New Here Dallas create an entry point for that cultivation, particularly for women seeking authentic relationships in a world where being digitally connected doesn’t always mean feeling personally connected.

Through meaningful conversations, resources and community, The Connection helps ensure that women do not have to navigate their new chapters alone.

Between the panels, vendors, keynote conversation and connections throughout the room, the biggest takeaway wasn’t simply about meeting someone new.

It was about creating space for people to show up as they are while becoming intentional about who they are becoming.

Whether you’ve lived in Dallas for six months or your entire life, there are still new rooms to enter, relationships to build and versions of yourself to discover.

Sometimes finding your place begins with asking a different question:

Not just, “How do I get a seat at the table?”

But, “What is my seat — and what am I meant to do once I get there?”

Related

Overview: On August 22, 2026, The Connection hosted its flagship annual event, I’m New Here Dallas, to foster…

[9
146653,146654,6007,6008,6009,68932,56344,4621,102,104,103,6011,712,146655,146656,66,146657,82200,223,146658,146659,146660,70,146661
post-421279","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dallas","tag-a-seat-at-the-table","tag-being-intentional","tag-black-media","tag-black-news","tag-black-press","tag-connections","tag-conversation","tag-culture","tag-dallas","tag-dallas-headlines","tag-dallas-news","tag-dallas-weekly","tag-dallas-fort-worth","tag-im-new-here-dallas","tag-kyla-williams","tag-local","tag-natalie-arlo","tag-networking","tag-news","tag-reagan-elam","tag-texas-glam-agency","tag-the-connection","tag-this-week","tag-violas-house
["GET
