{"id":422387,"date":"2026-09-01T01:48:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T01:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/422387\/"},"modified":"2026-09-01T01:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T01:48:08","slug":"neighbor-uses-his-own-tools-to-clear-storm-debris-as-crews-begin-repairs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/422387\/","title":{"rendered":"Neighbor uses his own tools to clear storm debris as crews begin repairs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN ANTONIO &#8211; Pieces of roofs, damaged homes and downed tree limbs still littered the area Saturday morning after the storm as crews worked to make repairs and residents pitched in to clean up.<\/p>\n<p>One neighbor, Ray, said the destruction was so severe it looked like an explosion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought somebody threw a bomb here!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ray said the storm left his street barely recognizable, with trees down, debris scattered and power out for days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMe and my wife didn&#8217;t sleep at all, we just stayed outside,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Even after his power came back on, Ray used his own tools to help clear debris from the street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomebody&#8217;s got to do it! I got a big heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CPS Energy crews have been working around the clock to repair 500 downed wires. <\/p>\n<p>Frank Almaraz, interim president and CEO of CPS Energy, said, \u201cThe rest of the effort is going to be, slower, but we continue to work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The utility said about 111,000 customers lost power at the height of the storm, and that number has dropped to under 2,000.<\/p>\n<p>Almaraz said crews had replaced 50 poles \u201cas of this morning,\u201d noting that \u201ceach pole replacement is at minimum a three hour process,\u201d and can take longer depending on working conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Another challenge is that some repairs are needed in backyards. Deputy City Manager Mar\u00eda Villag\u00f3mez said the city has been working to clear debris and aid residents, but cannot reach every home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not gone to every single home. We have targeted those areas where we have seen most impacted.
