{"id":423477,"date":"2026-09-02T02:20:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T02:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/423477\/"},"modified":"2026-09-02T02:20:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T02:20:07","slug":"el-paso-police-renew-traffic-safety-push-target-dwi-after-rise-in-roadway-deaths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/423477\/","title":{"rendered":"El Paso police renew traffic safety push, target DWI after rise in roadway deaths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4)  \u2014 El Paso police are rolling out a renewed strategy aimed at cutting down on roadway deaths, with a focus on removing drunk drivers from the streets after an increase in deaths tied to DWI.<\/p>\n<p>At a City Council meeting on Tuesday, El Paso Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Zina Silva said the department plans to work with other law enforcement agencies and nongovernmental partners to reduce traffic deaths. Officer Silva also mentioned other organizations the department will be working with.<\/p>\n<p>We are going to be working with other law enforcement agencies and non-governmental agencies like MADD, Sober Streets, and TxDOT to reduce traffic fatalities<\/p>\n<p>Silva said the department plans to bring back the Neighborhood Watch program so communities can help hold each other accountable for what is happening in their neighborhoods. Greg Abbott. <\/p>\n<p>Silva told city officials the department\u2019s priority is to partner with local bars to offer education through the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission on the consequences of overpouring or operating over capacity. Diaz De Leon spoke about her sister, who was a victim of drunk driving.
