When I saw that WWE <\/a>wrestler JBL’s famous limo was not only available, but up for grabs for a paltry $6,000, it seemed too good to be true. The Facebook Marketplace listing, or more accurately a Facebook post of a picture of a listing<\/a>, went viral, gaining all sorts of interactions from wrestling fans who took the opportunity to reminisce.<\/p>\n

The limousine, which belonged to Sweetwater, Texas’ John Layfield, better known by his ring name John Bradshaw Layfield or JBL, was a signature part of his heel persona. He was a big, tall, rich, cowboy hat- and suit-wearing, big-mouthed Texas businessman-so obviously, he had his own limousine to be chauffeured around in. JBL won his sole WWE Championship in 2004 and held the title for a record 280 days at the time. He retired in 2009 after 17 years in the business.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Publications, including Complex, jumped on the viral moment with little to no interrogation<\/a>. After completing some capital “J” journalism (meaning, a couple Google searches, contacting the seller, and comparing a couple photos), I have come to find that the limo that has gone viral is, in fact, not JBL’s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The seller said through Facebook Marketplace DMs that he could not confirm or deny whether the limousine in question belonged to the former WWE Champion. The seller also said he has had tons of people messaging him, telling him it is JBL’s famous limo, but he’s unsure. Curiously, the photo of the listing that went viral showed the price was cut from $6,000 to $5,500.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The vehicle is listed as a 1997 Lincoln Town Car limo. It has had one owner and comes equipped with an odometer reading more than 200,000 miles. JBL did not begin his big bad Texas businessman gimmick and debut his chauffeur-driven limousine until 2004. While older models may have been used, the majority of the limousines were newer models.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The major red flag was the viral post that curiously cuts off half of the limousine and then attaches a separate photo of the JBL logo from an actual WWE video of a completely different body-style limo. The actual listing does have a logo on it, but it says “Rowdy”-not “JBL.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

The horns on the listed limo are also completely different from JBL’s limo. The iconic set of longhorns that adorned the hood are not only bigger and nicer looking; they also sit almost directly in the middle of the hood. The listed limousine’s horns are placed at the very front of the hood. Regardless of the year or model of limousine used, the horns were always in the middle.\u00a0<\/p>\n

JBL more than likely went through a dozen different limos during his WWE career, due to the constant damage and stunts that were performed in, on, or around the vehicles. John Cena and Cryme Tyme did destroy it that one time<\/a>. The WWE is more than likely still in possession of one, if not a few, of the vehicles.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Why would this one end up being randomly sold on Facebook Marketplace? The listing is more than likely for a limousine acquired from a defunct limo service.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although it’s not the real thing, the listing has given fans an excuse to reminisce about all the iconic moments involving it, like the time the Undertaker chokeslammed JBL through the roof <\/a>of it at SummerSlam, or when the late, great Eddie Guerrero impersonated JBL’s driver and took him on a joyride.<\/a> Nothing to say someone can’t do that with this imposter.<\/p>\n
