I feel like we go straight to the pros and cons without knowing what they even do, besides suck up a bunch of water.

Fortinet defines a data center as “a centralized physical facility that stores businesses’ critical applications and data,” and that they are a location where “computing and networking equipment is used to collect, process, and store data, as well as to distribute and enable access to resources.”

How Many Data Centers in Lubbock, Texas?

Now we can get to looking at how many there are in Lubbock. According to datacentermap.com, there are currently 537 data centers across the Lone Star State in 44 different markets. How many in Lubbock? Well, that would be the lucky number three.

Read More: Shocking AI Reveals Lubbock’s Worst Overrated Landmarksdatacentermap.comdatacentermap.com

Reese Data Center, Lumen Lubbock 1, and a third location that’s currently in-progress.

This third location is being built by the company TeraWulf that’s partnering with the AI cloud firm Fluidstack. It’s supposed to be a pretty sizeable campus that will deliver 168 megawatts (MW) of critical IT load across a 120-acre site.

For those of us who don’t speak AI, that just means that most of the power output spread across enough land to include over 90 football fields will support computing equipment, servers, and storage drives for the company.

The project is expected to reach near-completion by the end of this year, and TeraWulf is slated to make a cool $4.5 billion when it’s all said and done.

Reese and Lumen Lubbock 1 Data Centers

The other two data centers in Lubbock County are actually complete. The Reese Data Center in particular was a major addition to the county. Reese has been integrated within Lubbock County for a while now, and their relationship with local leaders is stronger than ever.

For example, when construction for Reese National Security Complex broke ground earlier this year, Texas Tech University President Dr. Lawrence Schovanec and Speaker of the House Dustin Burrows were key voices in support of how the development will benefit the city and the university.

The Reese Data Center provides secure, efficient environments for servers and network equipment.

Finally, Lumen Lubbock 1, located at 1502 Avenue N, takes up about 5,000 square feet of property. It needs so much space to serve customers across the southwestern U.S. in providing digital infrastructure, network connectivity, and secure data management.

You can go to Lumen’s webpage on datacenters.com to learn more about Lumen and their unique data center in Lubbock.

So, what do you think? Are data centers going to continue to sprout up more often as we begin the AI era? I suppose that only makes sense, but I don’t see every Texan being on board for long.

Top 10 Reasons You’re Definitely Living in Lubbock, TX, According to ChatGPT

Have you ever wondered what AI has to say about Lubbock?
