On Sunday, we’ll again get showers and thunderstorms scattered throughout southeast Texas. I’m going with a 60% chance of thunderstorms. It also brings a low street flooding threat for the area shaded below in yellow.

Early Sunday afternoon we may have storms in Houston and along the coast (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)Areas in yellow have a small chance of getting one or two areas of street flooding (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)Labor Day Monday:

Tropical moisture sticks around through Monday, bringing more isolated storms in the afternoon. Don’t cancel those outdoor plans but have a backup to move them indoors. Monday’s high is in the mid-90s with a 30% chance of rain. Did you know this is the third year in a row the tropics don’t have a named storm during the Labor Day weekend. This hasn’t happened since the 1930s! The peak of the hurricane season is September 11th and 12th.

No storms are expected in the next 7-days (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)

Edouard hit as a 60mph tropical storm. So far this hurricane season, we have not had a hurricane form in the Atlantic basin. The latest first hurricane to form was Gustav and Humberto, which formed on September 11th. In the modern era, there has always been at least one hurricane to form.

We are on pace for latest first hurricane to form (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)Meanwhile in the Pacific:

The exceptionally strong El Niño has created near-ideal conditions for tropical development across the Pacific. Currently, there is Category 4 Lowell, Cat 1 Karina, and category two hurricane Maria.

Lowell will track west of the Hawaiian Islands bringing dangerous strong surf conditions.

While this track looks strange, it is similar to Hurricane Iniki in 1983, which had a devastating impact on Kauai.

Marie, Karina and Lowell are all hurricanes (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)Missing a direct hit on Kauai by 75-100 miles (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)2-6″ of rain and dangerous surf on south facing beaches (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)Extended forecast:

With no high pressure around, temperatures will be near average for this time of year, and sea breeze storms are possible nearly every day through the end of next week.

What to expect through Tuesday September 15th (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)Anthony’s Weather Lab

More Stories Like This In Our Email Newsletter

Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.

Live radar:Before we get to Sunday here is a live look at our Saturday storms.
