North Texans heading to Labor Day events or outdoor job sites Monday will face a Heat Advisory<\/a> through 8 p.m., with Dallas forecast<\/a> to reach 101 degrees and feel as hot as 106, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n

The advisory covers Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton and 15 other north-central and northeast Texas counties. The broader advisory area could see heat index readings as high as 107, according to the agency\u2019s late-Sunday forecast discussion<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The heat index<\/a> reflects how hot conditions feel when relative humidity combines with the actual air temperature. The Dallas forecast places the air temperature near 101 Monday.<\/p>\n

Light southeast winds should increase to 5 to 10 mph during the afternoon, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Dallas should remain clear Monday night, with a low near 81.<\/p>\n

Take precautions outdoors<\/p>\n

The NWS advises<\/a> people attending outdoor events or working outside to drink water, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and move strenuous activity to the early morning or evening. Workers should take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning.<\/p>\n

Residents should walk pets outside the hottest afternoon hours, keep water available and never leave children or pets in an enclosed vehicle, even briefly. Anyone showing signs of heat stroke needs emergency help; call 911.<\/p>\n

Triple-digit heat continues<\/p>\n

Dallas should reach 101 Tuesday, when the heat index could climb to 107, followed by 101 Wednesday. Forecasters expect temperatures across North and Central Texas to remain 7 to 10 degrees above normal into next weekend.<\/p>\n

DFW Airport reached 100 Sunday, nine degrees above the normal September 6 high, and recorded no precipitation, the NWS climate report<\/a> shows. That report lists 91 degrees as the normal DFW high for September 7.<\/p>\n

Dry streak reaches 53 days<\/p>\n

DFW Airport had completed 52 consecutive days without measurable rain before Sunday ended, and Sunday could add another, CBS Texas reported<\/a>. Sunday ended with 0.00 inches of precipitation at the airport, according to the NWS climate report issued early Monday.<\/p>\n

Taken together, those records indicate Sunday completed the airport\u2019s 53rd consecutive day without measurable precipitation. Monday would become day 54 only if the airport finishes the day without measurable rain.
