Central Texas luncheon focuses on workers

At the Central Texas luncheon in Waco, the focus was on the workers who keep communities running.

“Today we’re celebrating Labor Day. It’s a day set aside for the working people. The working people is sometimes forgotten. You have your plumbers, you have your pipe fitted, electrician workers, elevator workers, your post office. All those people are working middle class, labor workers,” said Everett Wyllie, president of the Central Texas Labor Council.

Labor Day coincides with election season

This Labor Day also coincides with local leaders entering election season as they look to garner support from organizations like the Central Texas Labor Council.

“Labor Day is everything. If you come to work, put on your work clothes, put on your shoes, put on your uniform, and you come out to work to support your family, this is how you make your living. This is your livelihood. We support you 110%,” Wyllie said.

Wyllie said he hopes days like Monday remind workers what the labor council stands for.
