Investigators accuse Malik of allegedly killing his mother, Dyna Sorto De Malik, and attempting to conceal her body in a duffel bag.  <\/p>\n<p>At approximately 10 p.m. on Sept. 1, HCSO homicide investigators responded to a report of a possible murder after deputies discovered a deceased body inside a residence while conducting a welfare check at a home on Valley Knoll Drive in West Houston. According to court documents, a family member had requested a welfare check after not hearing from Malik or his mother, who allegedly lived together. <\/p>\n<p>Sign up for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/hellohouston\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hello, Houston!<\/a> daily newsletter to get local reports like this delivered directly to your inbox.<\/p>\n<p>Deputies said that they found Malik asleep in a bedroom after forcibly entering the property. Deputies allegedly had difficulty waking Malik, and he was later transported to a hospital, according to court documents. <\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 2, deputies conducted a search warrant on the property and transported the body to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science, where the body was allegedly identified as Malik&#8217;s mother.<\/p>\n<p>Malik was charged with tampering with evidence on Sept. 4 and later charged with murder on Tuesday. As of Tuesday, Malik had not yet been appointed a public defender. <\/p>\n<p>Malik is currently being held in the Harris County Jail under a $500,000 bond, according to Harris County jail records. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Lucio Vasquez \/ Houston Public Media A Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office deputy stands near his patrol vehicle.
