Photo by Emmanuel Pizano<\/a><\/p>\n The UTA men\u2019s golf team is set to start its season Monday, as the team looks to claim its first conference title since 2011. <\/p>\n Golf teams can only bring five golfers to meets, with the best four scores counting toward the team results, though some tournaments allow teams to bring extra players who compete on their own. UTA enters the 2026-27 season with 11 men\u2019s golfers. <\/p>\n The Mavericks have four returning golfers: seniors Matthew Broder and Michael Chevalier, junior Jerry Huang and sophomore Ajay Morris. The program also has four upperclassman transfers, including a graduate student and three juniors. <\/p>\n Chevalier is the only men\u2019s golfer to be entering his fourth year in Arlington, and he\u2019s become as much of a team leader as one can be in such an individual sport. <\/p>\n \u201cI’ve been through more while in Arlington, so I know more about the team dynamic and what it means to be a Maverick,\u201d Chevalier said. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to really take command of any roster, but I think this year we have a good group of guys, and everyone gets along well enough, so everyone will kind of feed off each other’s energy.\u201d <\/p>\n Graduate student Joseph Hayden comes to Arlington from Santa Clara University, while juniors Adam Miller, Ed Procter and Winston Shen come from Loyola Marymount University, the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Saint Mary’s College of California, respectively. <\/p>\n Head coach Logan Goulding said the team\u2019s starting five is penciled in but not yet in permanent ink. He said traveling to the team\u2019s first tournament will be Chevalier, Hayden, Huang, Procter and freshman Austin Dennis. <\/p>\n \u201cI don’t know that this will be the lineup that shakes out all year, but again, we’re going to be learning every week, and everybody’s probably going to get an opportunity to play,\u201d Goulding said. \u201cIt was important for us to add depth.
