Visitors say Republican messaging on immigration and the economy is bringing them to the event, and some are also making time to enjoy Dallas. Belinda Sumner of Mission, Texas, and Nuri Vitiello of Washington, D.C., are in Dallas for their annual &#8220;sister trip,&#8221; but this time the usual massages and pool days are being replaced by stump speeches at the American Airlines Center. They also planned a Tuesday night dinner at Crown Block, the restaurant at the top of Reunion Tower, which offers a panoramic view of the city. The sisters said they are supporters of the GOP&#8217;s efforts to tighten immigration enforcement and proud of the Trump administration&#8217;s focus on voter integrity. At the Hilton Anatole, Republicans arrived from Delaware, Kentucky, and Guam, the U.S. island territory in the Pacific Ocean. Illinois GOP chair Bob Grogan said the convention gives Republican &#8220;stars&#8221; a chance to tell their story and talk about government spending. Grogan said people are &#8220;voting with their feet&#8221; and moving to red states where the cost of living is lower. He hopes the convention helps Illinois Republicans, including Darren Bailey, who is challenging incumbent Gov. J.B. Pritzker, a Democrat. Cory Dennis of the Louisiana GOP said the convention should energize voters ahead of &#8220;competitive races&#8221; in November. He said the party should focus on the administration&#8217;s economic wins, adding, &#8220;Our economy is booming.
