On the north side of town sits an oddly placed little restaurant that is serving some absolutely amazing meals.<\/p>\n

I first found out about Cuevas Drive-In in Lubbock<\/a> after an extended hospital stay. A friend was taking me home, and the first thing on the agenda was lunch. He asked if we could call in an order from Cuevas Drive-In, and I had no idea what he was talking about.<\/p>\n

He called and found out the special that day was carne guisada.<\/p>\n

Could my newly gallbladder-less body handle it? I was willing to risk it because I LOVE carne guisada.<\/p>\n

I’m happy to report it was amazing.<\/p>\n

One Of Lubbock’s Best-Kept Food Secrets<\/p>\n

I’d also be remiss if I didn’t tell you that the outside of the building looks a little like it was put together by the Little Rascals. This is a classic case of “don’t judge a book by its cover,” because since that first visit, I’ve been going back on the reg.<\/p>\n

There are just no misses on the menu. You’re going to have a hard time finding something that isn’t great.<\/p>\n

They have $11 daily specials that absolutely rule. At last check, it was hamburger steak on Monday, enchiladas on Tuesday, hand-battered chicken strips on Wednesday, chicken-fried steak on Thursday, and that incredible carne guisada on Friday.<\/p>\n

They’ve also been known to change things up or add additional specials, so it never hurts to check their Facebook page or just call and ask, “What’s good today?”<\/p>\n

I should also mention that their hamburgers are legendary.<\/p>\n

I’ve actually been hesitant to write about Cuevas for a long time. This is one of those places that can sell out shortly after lunch, and I’m taking a real chance here by letting more people in on the secret.<\/p>\n

But they deserve the attention.<\/p>\n

This is simply great people serving great food. Whether you sit down inside or grab your order to go, there’s a very good chance Cuevas Drive-In is about to become another one of your favorite Lubbock restaurants.<\/p>\n

Just save some carne guisada for me.<\/p>\n
