San Antonio’s live-music calendar is all over the map this week — in the best possible way. From Kany García’s affecting Latin pop and Thee Sacred Souls’ throwback R&B to Sevendust’s metallic crunch and Sweeping Promises’ punky exuberance, there’s much worth scouting out.

Wednesday, Sept. 9

Kany García

Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Kany García’s poignant, melodic and deeply affecting songs seem to transcend language. García has a deep and dedicated English-speaking fanbase and numerous Grammys to prove it. Her recent Tiny Desk Concert for NPR went viral, bringing new fans into the fold. $48 and up, 8 p.m., Majestic Theatre, 224 E. Houston St., (888) 811-5040, us.atgtickets.com. — Bill Baird

Thursday, Sept. 10

Drink the Sea

Superstar collaboration bands sometimes come across as crass money grabs by long-forgotten rock dinosaurs, but Drink the Sea seems legit. Featuring members of R.E.M., Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age, the group seems remarkably grounded in good songwriting and solid musicianship. They augment their sound from time to time with unusual instrumentation such as the oud and sitar, which deepens the vibe with a sense of exotic mystery. $20, 8 p.m., Stable Hall, 307 Pearl Parkway, stablehall.com. — BB

Sevendust, Theory of a Deadman

Sevendust sits in a sweet spot between rock and metal, and the band also benefits from frontman Lajon Witherspoon’s soaring vocals. Meanwhile, many have written off Theory of a Deadman’s alternative country-rock sensibilities as “butt rock,” perhaps because the act was first signed to Nickelback vocalist Chad Kroeger’s record label. $55.07-$92.03, 7 p.m., Boeing Center at Tech Port, 3331 General Hudnell Drive, (210) 600-3699, boeingcentertechport.com. — Brianna Espinoza

Thee Sacred Souls, La Lom, The Womack Sisters

The San Diego trio Thee Sacred Souls is known for a soothing brand of throwback soul and R&B grooves, a sound that makes a fitting post-summer salve. The group jumped from near obscurity thanks to an assist from Gabe Roth of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and emerged as a leading light in the new soul revival. For its part, La Lom blends Mexican, Cuban and Peruvian into its take on classic rock and soul, and the Womack Sisters are the nieces of legendary soul man Bobby Womack. $35.20-$76.90, 6:30 p.m., Freeman Coliseum, 3201 E. Houston St., (210) 226-1177, freemancoliseum.com. — Danny Cervantes

Friday, Sept. 11

Molecular Steve, Hacienda

Austin’s Molecular Steve is an intriguing multi-generational nine-piece band that crafts muscular, wry pop-rock with a ton of heart and a bit of swagger. The Austin act really seems to be hitting its stride right now. San Antonio indie-rockers Hacienda have been laying low for a few years but remain one of the brightest lights to emerge from the city’s mid-aughts scene. $10, 9 p.m., Lonesome Rose, 2114 N. St. Mary’s St., (210) 455-0233, thelonesomerose.com. — BB

Saturday, Sept. 12

Sweeping Promises

Sweeping Promises bash out refreshingly direct punk rock embellished with a healthy heaping of singalong pop bliss. Which is to say this group is out ahead of almost anyone doing the proper “rock band” thing right now. Fittingly, Sweeping Promises’ newest album, You Say I Romanticize, is out on the venerable Sub Pop label — one of the best that’s ever existed. $21, 8 p.m., Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com. — BB
