When the first cold front of the year hits Lubbock, I instantly become a totally different human being.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t matter if it’s 58 degrees.<\/p>\n

That counts around here.<\/p>\n

I will be donning my fuzzy socks, my favorite sweatpants, a big old hoodie, and wrapping myself up in my coziest blanket like an elderly Victorian woman waiting for the doctor’s carriage to arrive at my doorstep.<\/p>\n

I’m turning on the fireplace. I know the temperature will probably crawl back into the 80s or 90s three days later, but I don’t give a sh*t. I didn’t turn it on a single time last year, and I’ve regretted it.<\/p>\n

I have one. Let me use it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I’ll also be making chicken and dumplings. Maybe even hot cocoa to wash it down.<\/p>\n

I’m probably even going to light a candle or something…for a little extra cold-day ambiance.<\/p>\n

And I’m definitely going to watch something on Netflix that I’ve already seen 17 times. Perhaps a Christmas movie. (If you’re a purist, you may be angry that I skipped directly over Halloween…and you can suck a bug.)<\/p>\n

AND, you know what else?<\/p>\n

I’ll probably even complain a little.<\/p>\n

Because that’s how we do things in Lubbock.<\/p>\n

I’ve spent the last 5 months begging the sun to stop cooking us alive, but the moment the thermostat makes a significant drop, I’ll whine a little. I will.<\/p>\n

It’s all about fitting in. Right?<\/p>\n

GIVE US THE COLD FRONT!<\/p>\n

I can’t wait to sit under three blankets, drink something hot, and fool myself into thinking that winter is here to stay. We all know it isn’t.<\/p>\n

But for one glorious weekend, I will absolutely be living my best little cozy goblin life, and I bet you will too.<\/p>\n
