This week, the convention\u2019s cast of entertainers looked very similar to Trump\u2019s previous rallies.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Trump greeted Lee Greenwood like an old friend after the country singer performed his hit, \u201cGod Bless the U.S.A.\u201d, as Trump walked on the stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been with me right from the beginning,\u201d Trump told the crowd at the start of his Wednesday night speech.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of singers have wanted to introduce me \u2014 once you win everybody wants to introduce you,\u201d Trump said. \u201cBut I said \u2018No way, nobody \u2014 only Lee, Lee\u2019s the only one who\u2019s going to introduce me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Greenwood joined singer Christopher Macchio and comedian Adam Carolla as the main entertainers headlining the midterm convention. A vocal Trump supporter since 2016, Greenwood has performed at numerous campaign rallies and official presidential events. He most recently sang at the Trump\u2019s Salute to 250 event in Washington, D.C., in July.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He was one of the few artists who stuck by Trump\u2019s side during the 250th celebrations in D.C., where many musicians dropped out of the Freedom 250 Concert series on the National Mall.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The musicians \u2014 including country singer Martina McBride, The Commodores, and Young MC \u2014 said the event was originally presented as a nonpartisan celebration of America\u2019s 250th birthday. But, they decided to step back because of the political connections to Trump\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n
Even as other artists have jumped ship, the entertainers who took the stage in Dallas have consistently stood by Trump throughout his career.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Christopher Macchio, a tenor who was set to open and close both days of the convention, has made frequent appearances at Trump rallies since performing at the Republican convention in 2020. He even sang the national anthem at Trump\u2019s second inauguration.<\/p>\n
Macchio said in an interview with The Dallas Morning News\u00a0he will always be Trump\u2019s \u201cloyal follower,\u201d and will \u201cdo whatever to serve his interest.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe understands what good music is, and what traditional values imbued into music looks like,\u201d\u00a0he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
While Macchio said he is certainly grateful for the chance to perform for a sitting U.S. president, he said he is more excited to be performing before this particular officeholder.<\/p>\n
