If you\u2019ve been on the highway in the last 24 hours, then you know the\u00a0Republican Midterm Convention<\/a>, hosted by the Republican National Committee, is in Dallas this week. And if you\u2019ve been on X, then you know they put a half-naked picture of polarizing leftist Twitch streamer <\/a>Hasan Piker on the jumbotron<\/a> at the American Airlines Center.<\/p>\n But who is Hasan Piker and why are Republicans obsessed with him? We can answer at least one of those questions.\u00a0<\/p>\n Piker is a 35-year-old Twitch streamer whose content focuses on breaking down current affairs in digestible, albeit sometimes extreme, ways for a predominantly young male audience. He also happens to look like a GigaChad<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n He\u2019s become a divisive figure in recent years for his self-ascribed Marxist views. Because of this, he\u2019s become a talking point for conservative politicians who use some of his most extreme soundbites as examples of the \u201cradical\u201d left.<\/a><\/p>\n Sign up for the Arts & Culture newsletter to get the latest stories delivered to your inbox<\/p>\n THANK YOU!<\/p>\n You’re all set.<\/p>\n CLOSE\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n But it\u2019s not just conservative Republicans who are weary of Piker. Democrats are also divided on the streamer,<\/a> who has found himself in hot water for praising the former leader of Communist China, Mao Zedong, among other scandals.\u00a0<\/p>\n Now that we\u2019re through with the nuts and bolts of things, let\u2019s get back to the real issue at hand: Why the Republican Party decided the best picture to use was one of Piker\u2019s thirst traps.\u00a0<\/p>\n We haven\u2019t got a clue.\u00a0<\/p>\n If you go to the streamer\u2019s Instagram, which has 2 million followers and 1,700 posts, you really have to scroll before you even see anything even close to a forearm vein.\u00a0<\/p>\n In fact, the hottest thing he\u2019s posted in the last six months is this picture with a dog:\u00a0<\/p>\n More scrolls and you\u2019ll find a fairly sexy merch drop and an obit of former Vice President Dick Cheney from a little under a year ago:\u00a0<\/p>\n And then eventually you\u2019ll find a bubble bath pic from GQ Magazine:\u00a0<\/p>\n Actually, a couple of bubble bath pics:\u00a0<\/p>\n Finally, you can also find the picture.<\/a> It\u2019s from 93 weeks ago.
