{"id":432451,"date":"2026-09-11T04:04:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T04:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/432451\/"},"modified":"2026-09-11T04:04:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T04:04:09","slug":"plano-isd-enrollment-drops-by-more-than-2500-students-plano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/432451\/","title":{"rendered":"Plano ISD enrollment drops by more than 2,500 students | Plano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pisd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Plano ISD\u2019s<\/a> enrollment is down by more than 2,500 students from last school year.<\/p>\n<p>The big picture<\/p>\n<p>As of Sept. 4, the district had 41,303 students enrolled in all grade levels, down from 43,838 in October of last school year, Deputy Superintendent Johnny Hill told the board of trustees <a href=\"https:\/\/planoisdtx.new.swagit.com\/videos\/400538\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">on Sept. 8<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>PISD\u2019s total enrollment has dropped in every school year since peaking at 55,659 in the 2011-12 school year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Diving deeper<\/p>\n<p>The steepest enrollment declines were at the fourth and 12th grade levels, which lost 362 and 327 students, respectively. The 11th-grade enrollment is down only 20 students from last school year, and sixth grade is the only level to see an increase\u2014adding 17 students from the count in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Enrollment has increased from the first day of school on Aug. 11, when it sat at 39,077 students. The current total of 41,303 is still below a previous <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/plano-north\/education\/demographer-plano-isd-enrollment-could-drop-below-40000-in-4-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">demographer projectio<\/a>n for enrollment this school year of 41,830.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would be shocked if we could make up that 527 [difference between projected and actual enrollment], but I think we\u2019ll continue to make up some of that between now and the end of October,\u201d Hill said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Why it matters<\/p>\n<p>The district receives state funding of approximately $10,000 per student, depending on student characteristics, Hill said.<\/p>\n<p>Hill added that the previously projected <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/plano\/education\/plano-isd-officials-project-448m-budget-shortfall-for-fy-2026-27\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">2026-27 budget<\/a> will be amended in November to account for deficiencies based on enrollment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll definitely have to make some adjustments,\u201d Hill said. \u201cWe\u2019ll cut back on our expenses accordingly based on the fact that we don\u2019t have quite as many students to educate.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Plano ISD\u2019s enrollment is down by more than 2,500 students from last school year.
