In 2026, he won a Grammy for “Amen,” a collaboration with Jelly Roll. The popularity made his latest release, “The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales,” one of the year’s most anticipated albums.

“We perform every song on the album, you know what I mean?” he says to the Observer. “We get to touch every song, and it really feels like the music is elevated. I love stories that are fictional, some that are real, hearing about the story, about the neighbor across the street. Stories, I think, really are what tie us all together, and what keep us going, and that’s why we’re here, is to create stories.”

After achieving award-winning success last year, he felt this album left him the creative freedom to tell a story he’d always dreamed of.

“On this album, getting the opportunity to do that with ‘The Outlaw Cherie Lee,’ it just felt … timely,” he says. “It’s been a project I’ve been wanting to do, like a dream of mine, that I’ve wanted since I started making music.
