Wearing full firefighting gear, some weighing up to 60 pounds, participants climbed 110 flights of stairs representing the 110 stories of the World Trade Center towers to honor those who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">More than 1,500 people participated in the 9\/11 Memorial Stair Climb held at the Sun Bowl on Friday, Sept. 11, honoring the memories of those killed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center&#8217;s Twin Towers in New York City and Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A fourth plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing all aboard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Nearly 3,000 people were killed by terrorists who hijacked commercial airliners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Members of Fort Bliss Army Post, the U.S. Border Patrol, FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration joined in the commemorative stair climb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The UTEP Army Reserve Officers&#8217; Training Corps, in partnership with the city of El Paso and the El Paso County Emergency Services District No. 1, held the event to honor and remember the firefighters, police officers and emergency medical services staff who died on Sept. 11, 2001.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A bell is rung during a Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony at the University of Texas at El Paso on Sept. 11, 2026.
