\"\"Stadler and the US operator CapMetro have signed a long-term agreement for technical support and spare parts management for the 10 GTW DMUs operating on Austin\u2019s suburban rail service. The contract begins in January 2027 and may be extended until 2034.<\/p>\n

The Swiss manufacturer Stadler is expanding its service operations in the United States through a new contract with CapMetro, the public transport authority in Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n

The agreement covers the fleet of 10 GTW articulated DMUs operating on the CapMetro Rail service, which have been carrying passengers in Austin since the system\u2019s launch in 2010.<\/p>\n

The contract has a base term of five years, from 2027 to 2032, and includes two one-year extension options, which could extend the partnership until 2034.<\/p>\n

The Stadler team will be based in Austin<\/p>\n

From January 2027, Stadler<\/a> will establish a dedicated local team comprising three specialists, which will provide direct technical support for the GTW fleet.<\/p>\n

The services included in the contract cover:<\/p>\n

technical support and engineering expertise;
\nspare parts management and supply;
\nstaff training;
\nsupport for the management of end-of-life components.<\/p>\n

Under the agreement, CapMetro will have direct access to the expertise of the trains\u2019 original manufacturer, which should simplify the resolution of technical issues and reduce periods during which vehicles are out of service.<\/p>\n

The GTW fleet has already been in service for over 15 years<\/p>\n

The Stadler GTW railcars in Austin have been in operation since the launch of the rail service in 2010.<\/p>\n

As the fleet ages, one of the main challenges is the availability of spare parts and the replacement of components that are no longer manufactured.<\/p>\n

Stadler will support CapMetro, including by identifying alternative solutions for these parts and ensuring the long-term availability of critical components.<\/p>\n

The company says this preventative approach should help improve reliability and reduce downtime for the trains.<\/p>\n

The contract covers services on the Red Line<\/p>\n

GTW railcars are used on the Red Line, CapMetro\u2019s suburban rail service.<\/p>\n

For passengers, the main objective of the new agreement is to maintain train availability and a high level of reliability, given that the vehicles have already entered a more advanced stage of their life cycle.<\/p>\n

We are focused on delivering the reliable service that Austin\u2019s passengers expect and on maximising the performance and service life of the fleet,\u201d said Martin Ritter, President and CEO of Stadler North America.<\/p>\n

Stadler\u2019s fourth service contract in Texas<\/p>\n

The agreement with CapMetro is the fourth service contract signed by Stadler in Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The company already provides maintenance and technical support services for other Stadler fleets operating in the state, which strengthens its position in the US after-sales services market.<\/p>\n
