Kefita Coffee<\/a>, located in Midtown, was opened by a mother-and-daughter duo with a deeply personal connection to Ethiopian coffee. The family\u2019s history with coffee goes back generations, including a grandfather who once had a coffee farm in Ethiopia.<\/p>\nFor owner, Ruby Amare and co-owner Addis Debebe, coffee is about much more than what\u2019s in the cup. In Ethiopia, the traditional coffee ceremony is a communal experience often enjoyed multiple times a day. At Kefita Coffee, that tradition is celebrated through regular coffee ceremonies where guests can gather, learn about Ethiopian culture and enjoy coffee together.<\/p>\n
The shop itself was designed to feel like a home, with different rooms where customers can relax and connect. One room is dedicated to the owner\u2019s grandmother, who helped pass down her knowledge of Ethiopian coffee ceremonies and the importance of bringing people together.<\/p>\n
Kefita Coffee also hosts a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony on the second Saturday of each month from noon to 2 p.m. The event is free and gives Houstonians an opportunity to experience the ceremony and hear the stories behind the tradition.<\/p>\n
This September is especially meaningful for the shop as it celebrates its second anniversary, which falls around Ethiopian New Year. For Capita Coffee, it\u2019s another opportunity to invite the Houston community in for coffee, culture and connection.<\/p>\n
