The dedicated bicycle\u00a0paths on Avenue B and Camden Street are overengineered and a waste of taxpayer money.<\/p>\n
It would be a\u00a0better use of tax money to just paint a stripe and create a bicycle path where there is room to do so without all the barriers.<\/p>\n
A law needs to be passed to allow bicycling on sidewalks only where there is no room for a bicycle to safely ride on a street. A good example would be along Basse Road around the Quarry Market.<\/p>\n
Bicycling on sidewalks in residential neighborhoods would remain restricted.<\/p>\n
Even though cyclists are a very small portion of our population, we want them to be safe.<\/p>\n
The long-term city bicycle plan estimates that up to $1.4 billion would come from the city, with federal funding up to $5.8 billion. The federal government, which is looking at a $40 trillion debt, and our city, which is looking at a $158 million budget deficit, both must feel bicycles should take priority over needed social services.<\/p>\n
I feel those expenditures should be reconsidered to best serve our residents in need. If the federal money keeps coming and we can balance our budget, we should create lanes with paint, no curbs, islands or any structures that can cause biker accidents, inconvenience traffic flow and impede business needs.<\/p>\n
Our city planners should look at the ridiculous overkill of bicycle lanes on Avenue B,\u00a0North Alamo Street and McCullough Avenue.<\/p>\n
They should cancel the proposed Market Street and Commerce Street lanes that would greatly inconvenience businesses and traffic flow on these important east-west corridors.<\/p>\n
Bicycle lanes are fine on streets where traffic flow is not inconvenienced and business needs are met.<\/p>\n

Diesel in\u00a0California is averaging $7.91 per gallon, and regular gas is averaging $5.89.<\/p>\n
