If you’ve spent any time scrolling social media lately, you may have seen KPRC 2 anchor Stephania Jimenez<\/a>\u00a0appearing in ads alongside\u00a0frustrated Houstonians venting about high bills<\/a>, missed trash pickup<\/a> and problems they can’t seem to get fixed. The ads all end on the same word: ENOUGH.<\/p>\n But what exactly is ENOUGH?<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n The answer starts to take shape Sunday, when KPRC 2<\/a> launches a new digital-first accountability series and reworked 10 p.m. newscast built around deeper reporting on issues affecting Houston-area residents<\/a>.<\/p>\n Chron got an early look Wednesday at a portion of the show inside KPRC’s studios, where station leaders described the project as a major departure from the familiar rhythm of local TV news.<\/p>\n “It’s not a stunt. It’s not a gimmick,” said KPRC Vice President and General Manager Sean McLaughlin<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n One previewed episode focuses on Texas’ new Education Freedom Accounts program. Reporter Rilwan Balogun<\/a> examines what happened after one private-school parent said his existing financial aid was reduced once his family qualified for state funding.<\/p>\n Balogun said he emailed 287 qualifying Houston-area private schools<\/a> about their policies, traveled to Austin seeking answers from state officials and went to Phoenix to examine how a similar program has played out in Arizona.\u00a0Jimenez also interviewed a journalist at KPRC sister station WKMG in Orlando about Florida’s voucher program.<\/p>\n “We’re so focused on breaking news, we’re so focused on just what local news has become over the last 20 years,” McLaughlin said, describing the development of ENOUGH as a “complete reset.”<\/p>\n Rethinking 10\u00a0p.m. news<\/p>\n The changes extend beyond what viewers will see on television. News Director Ana Lastra<\/a> said much of the reporting begins online, where reporters post about subjects they are investigating, ask questions and sift through audience feedback before a finished segment reaches the broadcast.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n “This is truly digital conversation with the community on the issues that they care about,” Lastra said.<\/p>\n Full episodes will also stream and appear on YouTube, while additional reporting, data visualizations and material that doesn’t make the broadcast will be shared across\u00a0KPRC’s other platforms.<\/p>\n Jimenez, who will anchor<\/a> ENOUGH while also reporting for it, said traditional investigative stories can lose viewers when they become too dense or stop after a single broadcast.<\/p>\n “A lot of investigative stories are boring,” Jimenez said. “I mean, they just are.”<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n KPRC plans to revisit stories as new information comes in, including through accountability trackers showing who reporters are trying to reach, which questions remain unanswered and where investigations stand.<\/p>\n The 10\u00a0p.m. hour will also have a much higher threshold for breaking news interruptions. Lastra said events with widespread impact, such as hurricanes or active tornado warnings, could take over the show, while more localized breaking stories may instead continue on KPRC’s website and streaming platforms.<\/p>\n The project has also required the station to rethink how it uses its staff.
