Rose has covered breaking news and traffic from a helicopter for the past nine years at ABC13 and said that Friday, Oct. 2, will be her final day of aerial reporting in Houston. She said she will retire from daily helicopter reporting to pursue independent journalism but still plans to work for her helicopter company part time with aerial assignments across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said\u00a0she was “ready to turn the page” from TV news, but the part-time coverage\u00a0could still service TV stations and news\u00a0organizations.\u00a0ABC13 News Director Keaton Fox did not immediately\u00a0return a request for comment.<\/p>\n

“Our industry is changing,” Rose wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday. “More journalists are becoming independent, giving them the freedom to go behind the headlines, ask difficult questions and take the time to uncover the full story. That is the kind of journalism I want to do for you.”<\/p>\n

Rose has meanwhile worked on an independent news website<\/a> called “Tammy Rose Reports,” which specializes in true crime, aviation and breaking news. She said her workload has doubled over the past year as she’s received more tips from her audience for investigative stories that wouldn’t fit in a 30-second report.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rose has delivered live reports from 6 to 7 a.m. during the week, according to her LinkedIn page. Earlier in her TV news career, she made stops in Arizona, Wisconsin, Mississippi and other smaller markets in Texas, her page states.<\/p>\n

She said her work for the station has evolved over the years \u2014 what began as TV reporting expanded into digital reporting and social media engagement, as it has for journalists throughout the industry. She is also working on a fourth book, according to her Facebook post.<\/p>\n

“I hope viewers remember that I always tried to be a trusted voice from above,” Rose said in a statement to the Chronicle. “Whether I was covering breaking news, severe weather or the morning commute, my goal was to give people clear, accurate information while showing them Houston from a perspective few people ever get to see.”<\/p>\n

Correction (Sept. 14, 10:15 a.m.): This story has been updated to reflect that Tammy Rose reported on Houston from the helicopter for nine years.
