Seven Texas cities are among the country\u2019s top 50 places to rent, with one taking the crown for the second consecutive year, according to a national ranking released this month.<\/p>\n

A notable absence: San Antonio, which plummeted 19 spots from last year and disappeared from the top-50 list.<\/p>\n

The list from RentCafe<\/a> \u2014 a platform for users to find apartments and houses, sign leases and pay bills \u2014 analyzed 150 U.S. cities on 20 metrics, including affordability, renter income growth, the number of social groups and walkability. It lumped these measures into three categories: cost of living and housing, local economy and quality of life.<\/p>\n

Located North of Dallas, McKinney again took the No. 1 spot, ranking third in cost of living and housing and ninth in quality of life. Renters in McKinney have access to high-end rentals, top-rated schools and more than 3,000 acres of parks and open space, according to the analysis.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, San Antonio had some of the largest downward movement, tumbling 19 spots to 63. While the Alamo City ranked 25 in housing and cost of living, it was dragged down by its local economy, which placed 126 overall, and its quality of life, which slotted in at 104.<\/p>\n

San Antonio had\u00a0the second highest rental turnover rate of the nation’s major metro areas, with nearly one of every two tenants moving out from 2023-24,\u00a0according to a report<\/a> that modular furniture company Rove Lab released earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The other Texas cities that made the list are:<\/p>\n

One major theme from this year’s rankings was the domination of Southern cities, which accounted for 37 of\u00a0the top 50 slots.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouthern cities have consistently delivered a combination of lower living costs, expanding rental stock and fast-growing local economies that other regions struggle to match at scale,\u201d said RentCafe writer and research analyst Florin\u00a0Petrut in the report. \u201cCities like McKinney, Huntsville and Austin show that renters don\u2019t have to sacrifice quality of life for affordability and that economic opportunity in the South extends well beyond a handful of major metros.\u201d<\/p>\n

San Marcos was named the nation’s best city to rent, according to cost of living and housing.<\/p>\n
