{"id":435785,"date":"2026-09-14T18:02:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T18:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/435785\/"},"modified":"2026-09-14T18:02:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T18:02:12","slug":"county-commissioners-approve-no-new-revenue-tax-rate-for-next-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/435785\/","title":{"rendered":"County commissioners approve no-new-revenue tax rate for next year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; Lubbock County commissioners approved the budget and tax rate for next year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Commissioners approved the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2026\/09\/01\/lubbock-county-commissioners-propose-no-new-revenue-tax-rate-budget-talks-grow-tense\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2026\/09\/01\/lubbock-county-commissioners-propose-no-new-revenue-tax-rate-budget-talks-grow-tense\/\">no-new-revenue rate<\/a>, which could potentially limit some of the funding county department heads have requested over the past month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The rate would bring in about $113 million in property tax revenue, an increase of about $108,000 over last year. It also gives a $27 a year discount to the average homeowner\u2019s tax bill. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The no-new-revenue tax rate provides a 3% raise for most employees and state-funded raises for some positions at the Juvenile Justice Center. It does not fund the entire IT budget requests. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe and District Attorney Sunshine Stanek told commissioners last month this doesn\u2019t meet the needs of the county. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Commissioners also adopted the property tax rate for the Lubbock County Hospital District, which is UMC. The hospital\u2019s levy is set at just shy of 10 cents per $100 valuation. This will bring in about $34 million in revenue. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Hospital administrators are hoping the commissioners court will adjust how it handles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2026\/08\/14\/umc-asks-lubbock-county-commissioners-reconsider-inmate-health-care-funding\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2026\/08\/14\/umc-asks-lubbock-county-commissioners-reconsider-inmate-health-care-funding\/\">care for inmates at the Lubbock County Detention Center<\/a>. UMC CEO Mark Funderburk told commissioners about a month ago it costs about a third of the hospital\u2019s revenue to cover that cost, about $11 million. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCBD.
