SAN ANTONIO – A man accused in a violent carjacking that left an 80-year-old victim critically injured has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, <\/p>\n
According to a press release from the Office of the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales, Gabriel Urbano pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery on June 18, 2026. Judge Christine Del Prado of the 227th District Court sentenced Urbano to 20 years in prison on Friday.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors said the case stems from a February 2023 attack on 80-year-old Larry Brister, who was carjacked, assaulted and left critically injured while making a quick dinner run. Brister was taken to the hospital and \u201cfought for his life for nearly five months\u201d before dying from his injuries, the release said.<\/p>\n
RELATED | 19-year-old convicted carjacker sentenced to 25 years for fatally dragging victim<\/a><\/p>\n Urbano and two other individuals were initially charged with aggravated robbery, but the charges were later upgraded to murder following Brister\u2019s death, according to the district attorney\u2019s office.<\/p>\n The release also said Urbano was charged in a separate aggravated robbery involving another victim, Eduardo Jaramillo. Prosecutors said Jaramillo confronted Urbano and co-defendant Zachariah Aguirre after discovering the two attempting to burglarize vehicles inside a secured apartment garage.<\/p>\n When Jaramillo confronted them, the district attorney\u2019s office said Urbano pulled out a firearm, pistol-whipped him above the right eye and demanded money. The release said Jaramillo fought back, gained control of the firearm and pointed it at Urbano and Aguirre as they fled.<\/p>\n
